Nowadays a website is a necessity for every business, as well as for many individuals. While it doesn’t take much to create a simple web site of mediocre quality, usually such a site is not useful at all. What is more, an unprofessional web site can do a lot of harm to your image. It is true that an unprofessional site will impress your customers but not exactly in the way you want it to impress them.
On the other hand, professional and expensive are not synonyms as far as building a website is concerned. A great site doesn’t have to be expensive in order to be top-notch. Paying tons of money is not a guarantee that your site will be professional. If you don’t know what it really takes to do in order to build an impressive website, you can spend a fortune and have a hot mess for a site. Here are some points to consider in order to avoid this most unfortunate situation:
- Choose reliable website hosting. Most likely your site will not be hosted with a free website hosting provider but with a paid one. There are many cheap and reliable website hosting providers and your task is to find the best among them. Best cheap webhosting is really important because the less downtime your site has, the better. If your website hosting is not reliable, this is enough to disappoint your customers.
- Hire a professional team. This point is also vital because if you don’t hire the right people, your efforts to create a great site are doomed. If the designers, developers, writers, and promoters you hire don’t know their business, be prepared that the final result might be heart-breaking.
- Allocate sufficient amount of time. Time is a critical factor in many endeavors and website design isn’t an exception. You need to have a realistic timeframe. It might look that a small site of 20 pages or so can be done in a day but this rarely happens. You need to provide time for discussions, for first prototype, review of the prototype, implementation of changes, etc. Nobody says that you must allocate years to your site but you need to have a realistic schedule because even top talents can make a mess when in a hurry.

Few days ago when I am watching news from the Philippines through TFC, one name and talent has struck me. When I had a chance to let my 10 fingers do the rest of asking Mr. Google about this court room sketch artist, I immediately send her an email to ask a permission to use her illustration and to be featured here.
Ala Paredes is a Sydney-based illustrator and designer who loved doodling even before she learned to walk properly. With a successful career as a TV host, model, and writer, she casually worked as free-lance illustrator on the side before deciding to return to college.
In 2009, she graduated with a ‘Diploma in Design and Illustration’ at Sydney Design Centre, Enmore
Her specialty lies in narrative and evocative illustration, or anything that has to do with “telling a story”.
