Designing a Political Logo: Trends and Examples

Politics is one of those things that never gets boring, never dies and can always be expected to be controversial. Whether politicians use television advertising, radio messages, print advertising or even Internet social networking venues, they want to be sure that they are heard on every available platform.

The political marketing industry spends a lot of money to ensure that their message is sufficiently delivered to the public as they search for creative, visually appealing images that will resonate with the public and create a lasting effect.

When a political party designs a party logo, they should take into consideration the party’s mission and the overall impression that they want to have on the voting public. Here are some examples and trends that popular political parties are using to make their statements and politically brand themselves:

Democratic Party Design

The American Democratic Party uses symbolic patriotic colors of red, white, and blue to reflect its party. Also, the donkey symbol is effectively used, kicking up his back legs (representing freedom and rebellion) and also has a white swoosh going through the graphic for even more symbolism.

Republican Party Design

The American Republican Party uses the elephant symbol, also with the familiar red, white, and blue colors that have been a figurative symbol for the party for more than 100 years. But by observing closely, there is a distinct rough square-shaped design on the animal that reflects the party’s authoritative policies. The stars on the logo are symbolic of goals and ideals, not just of the United States.

Green Party Design

The American Green Party is symbolic of green- living all across the Earth, – and it has designed its logo to reflect its message to that end. Its green color scheme very effectively showcases that effort, as well as the planet shown with flowers blooming, symbolizing the idea of birth, growth and renewal as a nation. The party also effectively uses block shapes to symbolize authority and leadership.

Libertarian Design

The Libertarian design focuses on social and civil liberties; therefore, its use of the Statue of Liberty is very applicable in its design. The color scheme of gold and dark blue make a very dramatic statement without being too blatantly obvious, while the circular shape exudes a feeling of inclusion.

Constitution Party Design

The Constitution Party is of a religiously- based nature and focuses heavily on using the Constitution as an integral center of focus on policies and regulations. The Constitution Party very craftily uses faithful American symbols in its logo for impact, including the bald eagle, stars and the American flag. Their authoritarian attitude is reflective in its rectangular shape with a news-type font.

Of course, all of these logos and designs were creatively engineered by someone likely within the political party represented. Each design is an example of the necessary crafting that it takes to make each design unique. As a result, each logo has become synonymous with its own set of colors, shapes and unique logo that makes it stand out and be noticed.
