Digital Photography Tips You Need to Know To Achieve Beautiful Images

Digital cameras have made taking photos far easier, but at the same time have also made taking bad photos much more common. However, this doesn’t have to be the case and with a little time spent with image editing software, you can rectify those issues and turn a poor photo into a fantastic reminder of any event or occasion.

To help you through the process, we have compiled a number of tips that will allow you to create beautiful images easily and efficiently.

1. Rotate And Straighten

It can be extremely frustrating having to strain your neck just to get a proper look at a photograph that has been taken sideways. Rotating a photo is a simple and effective way to ensure that a good photo is appreciated by those you share it with. This can be achieved in most photo editing programmes and will usually be easily accessible on the user interface or under one of the image options in your toolbar.

Similarly, straightening a photo that has been taken at a slight angle will produce far better results. This is achieved in much the same way as above, but instead of rotating the image 90º, you need an option that allows you to rotate by smaller degrees. This will usually be found in a similar menu or toolbar as the rotate 90º function.

2. Remove Red Eye

No one looks their best in a photo when they’ve been tarnished with dreaded red-eye. Fortunately, this issue can be easily resolved through the use of photo editing software with a built in red-eye function. This will usually target the necessary areas automatically, removing the demonic looking red-eye from all your photos.

3. Crop

A lot of perfectly good photos are ruined by reluctance to crop images. Whether your failure to focus the zoom of your camera when taking the photo has resulted in an overpowering background, or your picture is ruined by an unidentified shape in the corner, cropping is the perfect answer. This will remove any ‘problem’ areas from the edges of your photo and give you a cleaner, more impressive image.

4. Bring Light To Darkness

Sometimes, you’ll take a photo that has incredibly dark areas combined with spots of brightness. Brightening the whole photo won’t work as you’ll overexpose bright spots, creating more problems than you’ve solved.

Instead, use your image editor’s gamma control, which is usually found in the colour or image toolbars. This allows you to only brighten select areas – namely the dark spots of your photo.
